Mountain Bike Trails
Although there are no formal mountain biking tracks around the lake, a quick look around the web tell us that there are three main trails at Lake Vyrnwy - but unlimited possibilities depending on how adventurous you’re feeling!
The track opposite the boathouse, on the south side of the lake, is the start point for this 5 mile trail. The forest track takes you through clearings, conifer trees and birch trees. Gentle slopes, except one steep boggy section – retrace your route if not an experienced mountain bike rider, the decent back to the road is technical.
One of the highest falls surrounding Lake Vyrnwy, the waterfall is situated at the northern end of the lake and can be reached by a short ride from the Rhiwargor car park. From here follow the path that leads up along the valley of the Afon Eiddew following the course of the stream and crossing a wooden bridge to reach the waterfall. The ride is mainly grass tracks, on the flat with only small ascents. Either retrace your steps to return or take the forest track back to the car park.
On the north of the lake, this trail is 4.3 miles along forest tracks and roads, with a gentle incline. You will wander through mature conifer trees and get great views of the lake. This one is nice and easy with an option to stop for tea at the end!
